In almost all circumstances, anything above a 2-1/2 inch line is considered a "supply line" and really should not be used as a manned attack line but can be used for exposure protection with a monitor, deluge gun or exposure nozzle.

Essentials recommends for the one firefighter method of handling a 2 1/2" hose line to "form a large loop, cross the loop over the line about 2 feet behind the nozzle, then sit where the hose crosses and direct the stream." This is what I was taught in basic (many years ago) and what the academy teaches our recruits today.

1 200' 2 1/2" line crosslay with smoothbore. Have yet to want a 2 1/2" fog, but we have a 2 1/2" adjustable nozzle in a compartment case anyone wants. 1 200' 2 1/2" line preconnected on the back hosebed with smoothbore. 600' 2 1/2" line not preconnected on the back hosebed with gated wye that we use for our areas we need an extended hose stretch.

For instance, I know that 200' of 1 3/4" attack line can flow upwards of 200+ gpm (obviously depending on nozzle and pressure) but, I was, I guess, looking for the max capacity of the specified gpm's for the specified hose diameters, or for that matter, the "typical" capacities for those diameters. We use 2 inch attack lines as a single size attack line. It has replaced both the 1 3/4" and 2 1/2" hose. We have 200 gpm at 75 psi break-a-part low pressure combo nozzles backed by a 1 1/4" slug tip smooth bore. If 200 gpm isn't enough they spin off the combo tip and go to a 325 gpm smoothbore attack.

We are now an FD that uses 1" forestry hose for brush fires, 2 inch for all other fire attack, 3 inch for water supply and feeding our preconnected rear step stinger, and 5 inch for water supply. The only remaining length 1 3/4" line we have left is a 100 foot trash line.

The water volume will be more important as well as the stream type( straight or fog depending on the fire and method of attack). For an interior attack line I think you guys are on track with the 15/16" tip with a 50 psi nozzle pressure. The 180 gpm this tip delivers is pretty big amunition for most interior attack room and contents operations.
